Red Ribbon Week

October 23-31 was Red Ribbon Week.  The Student Council made posters for all the Creekside students to sign pledging to be drug free and decorated the schools with red ribbons.  For more information about this program please visit

TALL Tales

Ms. Taylor's second graders created life-size characters from the Tall Tales they've been reading.  Pictured above are Paul Bunyan & Babe the Ox, John Henry, and Johnny Appleseed.

Exploring New Worlds

Students in Ms. Taylor's class work together to create a poster to show what they learned about South America including facts, flags, and maps.

Chromebook Collaboration

Third grade students in Mr. Casasanto's class collaborated with Ms. Mullis, a fifth grade teacher at Ayden Elementary.  Each student in Mr. C's class was paired up with a student in Ms. Mullis' class.  The students participated in video chats to get to know each other and to buddy read picture books.  They will be completing a character study on characters from the books and using their information to collaboratively create a cartoon on Pixton.  Pixton is a web-based program that allows multiple users to create cartoons including the characters, settings, props, and dialogue.

Nonfiction Know-How

Ms. Hill's second graders partnered up to learn about nonfiction text features in the media center.  They studied the following features: heading, caption, table of contents, charts & graphs, index, and glossary.  Ask a second grader to show you what they learned!

Getting to Know You

Ms. James' class wrote and illustrated acrostic poetry so everyone could get to know each other.

Cool Characters

Mrs. Boyd & Ms. Hill collaborated on a project teaching students about character traits. The students learned to describe themselves using character traits, then did character studies from various books.  They brainstormed character traits of each character from the book, then chose their favorites to create a Tagxedo describing the character.  They also used their own character traits to create personalized silhouettes.

Pellet Power

Third graders dissected owl pellets during the month of October.  They examined the bones they discovered in the pellets. These pictures show the skeletons they reconstructed of the owl's prey.
